Liquid rubber – hydro-isolate your home from moisture

Securing walls and floors from moisture, especially in the bathroom and kitchen is an extremely important matter. There is a constant race between manufacturers to create perfect hydro-isolation materials. One of the most convenient and effective formulas on the market is liquid rubber.

What is liquid rubber and how does it work?

Liquid rubber is a flexible sealing compound used for professional protection of sanitary rooms. It secures the surface from water and moisture, so that liquid won’t penetrate the structure of the wall or the floor. It’s a great hydro-isolation tool. Steigner’s liquid rubber is characterised by one of the highest efficiency on the market (0.4 kg/m²). Suitable for all substrates – concrete, cement-lime plaster, tiles, bricks, etc. It can be used both indoor and outdoor. Exception are spaces under large water pressure, such as swimming pools.

Where is the best area to use liquid rubber?

By far, the most common place liquid rubber is used is in the bathroom. It fulfils its role especially where walk-in showers, or barrier-free shower trays, are installed. Water regularly and in large quantities flowing down the glaze and terracotta can penetrate the floor and contribute to the development of fungi and mould. It is a good idea to apply waterproofing in a liquid form before placing down the tiles. Also, the kitchen is a place where we constantly work with water. Securing the walls with liquid rubber means that moisture will not penetrate to the underlying structure. One of the advantages of the sealing compound is resistance to changing temperatures. It works perfectly on terraces and balconies. Before placing the top layer of tiles or artificial grass, you should consider securing it with a waterproof barrier.

Liquid rubber properties

The liquid sealing compound is primarily characterised by high water resistance. Due to its waterproof quality, it is recommended wherever water, water vapour or moisture can penetrate deep into the walls and floors (e.g. bathrooms, showers, saunas, etc.). It is recommended to apply the product twice for maximum effectiveness. Liquid rubber is also extremely efficient, which helps in the financial department. To paint 1 m², you need 0.4 kg of the product. It guarantees not only adequate insulation, but also savings. Another important feature is its universal application. It can be used on any surface, both indoor and outdoor. It successfully combines with other insulation materials (e.g. sealing mat). The exception are surfaces that are under water pressure, such as swimming pools.

Applying liquid rubber

Renovation in progress, liquid rubber is purchased – time for its application. Applying liquid rubber is simple and requires no special skills. Everyone can do it independently without the help of a professional. Firstly, you need to prepare the surface properly. It should be cleaned of dust, dirt, poorly adhering fragments and greasy stains. Apply the rubber using a roller or a brush. It is advisable to apply two layers of the product for maximum protection. The drying time between the applications is given on the packaging. Usually after 24 hours, the product can be applied once again. This product can be purchased on Amazon.
